Warning Signs Ignored: The Danger of Disregarding Warnings

Growing up, I remember hearing warnings from family and community members about the dangers of visiting certain places, especially our hometowns or villages. I used to think these warnings were mere rhetorical stories, rumors, or societal bandwagon fallacies. I'd hear people say, "Don't go to the village, they'll harm you," and I'd brush it off as mere superstition. But life has a way of teaching us harsh lessons. As I grew older, I began to notice a pattern. People who ignored these warnings would often meet with tragic consequences. Last year, I recorded several instances of untimely deaths in my community. When I traced the causes, I discovered that these deaths were not just natural. In each case, the deceased had been warned not to visit their village, but they ignored these warnings. Just this year, a neighbor of mine, despite repeated warnings, visited her village on the eve of the New Year. She died just a day after returning. The circumstances surroun...

Unity in Diversity: A Plea for Interfaith Understanding this Christmas

Have been seeing this updates over social media, thought i should pay a blind eye but I couldn’t. As someone who has always believed in tolerance and mutual respect, I am appalled by this statement advising Muslims not to accept gifts from Christians during Christmas. Personally, I have always sought to break down barriers and challenge misconceptions. I have gotten gifts from some of my well respected Muslim friends while I also do the same too, visited mosques, with my friends, not to pray, but to show solidarity and dispel the myth that Christians shouldn't set foot in a mosque. Most times I post pictures of me in the mosque and I got some comments from people and In turn I just feel like they don’t know what they are saying. What they fail to understand was that these set of friends I accompany to the mosque are not religiously stupid.  I have never been one to argue about religion, as I believe it's a personal matter. However, I have grown increasingly disenchanted with ...

The Igala story that set the arena for the current status quo

The Igala situation is like the story told of a woman who after so many years of inability to bring forth a child for her husband, even though he was not bothered by the situation, suggested to him that he sleeps with her maid servant so that she (the maid servant) could bear her (the mistress) children. -Fundamental mistake! The husband desirous of a child agreed to his wife’s seemingly novel proposal to have a slave bear forth a child for them. -Mistake number 2 The slave mid-servant agreed to her mistress proposal to sleep with her mistress’s master (husband) and bear them a child. - Mistake number 3 When the mid-servant took in, she became rude and began treating her mistress with levity and contempt: her mistress was despised in her eyes seeing she easily did what her mistress could not achieve in decades. The mistakes were now developing into a major crisis. The mistress now said to the mistress, “it’s all your fault! Now this servant of mine is pregnant, and she despise me, tho...

A RECAPITULATION OF CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA.

From sociological point of view, corruption in any human society is a clear indication that something is wrong in the system, be it political, economic, sociological or religious sphere.   Corruption in Nigeria has passed the alarming stage and entered the fatal stage; and Nigeria will -die if we keep pretending that she is only slightly disposed.  Corruption in Nigeria is no longer a small masquerade but a big one, a generally accepted and equally institutionalized "doctrine" for Nigeria. For a good percentage of people in the country, corruption is a free and fair game which anyone who is able could play unperturbed and without qualms. A cursory look at almost all the spheres of life in this our country would tell you of the escalating and mountainous rise in corruption. It's degrees, both the arithmetical and geometrical progressions are indomitable. The "evil" called corruption is found in every nook and cranny of the society. Corruption also reigns "su...

A BRIEF HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS

As my gift to you, I want to send you off with some fun Christmas facts. Please feel free to use them for interesting conversation starters at your gatherings. ORIGINS OF CHRISTMAS The origins of Christmas stem from both the pagan and Roman cultures. The Romans actually celebrated two holidays in the month of December. The first was Saturnalia, which was a two-week festival honoring their god of agriculture Saturn. On December 25th, they celebrated the birth of Mithra, their sun god. Both celebrations were raucous, drunken parties. Also in December, in which the darkest day of the year falls, the pagan cultures lit bonfires and candles to keep the darkness at bay. The Romans also incorporated this tradition into their own celebrations. As Christianity spread across Europe, the Christian clergy were not able to curb the pagan customs and celebrations. Since no one knew Jesus’s date of birth, they adapted the pagan ritual into a celebration of His birthday. CHRISTMAS TREES As ...
