The Igala story that set the arena for the current status quo

The Igala situation is like the story told of a woman who after so many years of inability to bring forth a child for her husband, even though he was not bothered by the situation, suggested to him that he sleeps with her maid servant so that she (the maid servant) could bear her (the mistress) children. -Fundamental mistake! The husband desirous of a child agreed to his wife’s seemingly novel proposal to have a slave bear forth a child for them. -Mistake number 2 The slave mid-servant agreed to her mistress proposal to sleep with her mistress’s master (husband) and bear them a child. - Mistake number 3 When the mid-servant took in, she became rude and began treating her mistress with levity and contempt: her mistress was despised in her eyes seeing she easily did what her mistress could not achieve in decades. The mistakes were now developing into a major crisis. The mistress now said to the mistress, “it’s all your fault! Now this servant of mine is pregnant, and she despise me, though I myself gave her the privilege of sleeping with you. The lord will make you pay for doing this to me!” - Buck passing The master replied, “since she is your servant, you may deal with her as you see fit”. -Buck passing The mistress reacted with the full weight of her light and anger. The pregnant young maid servant fled for her dear life only to be prevailed upon by relatives and “wise council “ to return to the father of the child she was carrying advising her to submit totally to her mistress. She did as she was told. The mid-servant, few months later, gave birth to a bouncing baby who as it turned out became wild, sadistic, satanic and against good men and every good thing ( good men and good things were against him too) A few years later, the mistress conceived and gave birth to her own child who became spectacle for decency, uprightness, humility, respect for humanity and life and above all a child who feared God. - Points to Ponder: The impatience of the Igala’s led to the fundamental mistakes, which in-turn beget other mistakes. The product of those mistakes are the strange cultures and values some igalas cling tenaciously to today ignoring the fundamental values of decency, uprightness, humility, respect for humanity and life and fear of God which the offspring from the real mother (Igala land) brought forth.
